Turning a Collection of Sentimental Rings into the Perfect Trilogy Ring

My lovely client brought me a little pouch of mixed gold rings for me when we first met along with a few broken earrings and an eternity with a missing diamond. She tasked me with making a new ring with the old gold and stones that embodied the sentiment that the original trilogy ring held. Now worn to a thin whisp with years of love.
It was a symbolic piece and the three colours of gold were important. We decided that the original diamonds should split between each ring. The gold was melted down and was enough to form a much more durable weight yellow band. We then added new gold for the rose and white bands as there wasn't quite enough in the mixed band which would also have added in solder which might have caused cracking and lowered the carat of the melt.
When we tried the new ring the feel was so much more substantial, ideal for the stones and longevity. However it felt so different after years of wear that we got to thinking how to make it feel better.

The design solution..? We split the ring into a single yellow gold band and the other two interlinked. As she had two daughters this felt really quite lovely and the symbolism and look still remained.

A clever design that still looks like a trilogy together but a much more manageable feel.
